Have you seen quilt coats making a come-back lately? There are influencers paying top dollar for coats made from vintage quilts. I just finished making a quilt that I’m going to use to make my own coat. I can’t wait to show you how it comes out.
Here are the top 13 quilt coat patterns to inspire your creativity, or to sew your own!
The Beachcomber Jacket
The Beachcomber Jacket Pattern from Laundry Basket Quilts differs from the rest because it includes instructions for all the beautiful stars on the coat!
The Quilters Quilt Coat Pattern
The Quilters Quilt Coat Pattern from Thready Bear Creations is a three-quarter-length jacket designed to be sewn from a vintage quilt or quilted fabric. The generous gender-neutral sizing makes it perfect for anybody, and there are no closures. Reviewers state that the pattern is easy to follow.
The All Well Cardigan
The All Well Cardigan by Amy Bornman of the All Well Workshop is a simple tie-front jacket that can be made with all kinds of textiles, including quilts. This pattern includes a ‘hacking guide’ to help you tailor your coat to match your unique style
The Nerissa Quilted Coat Jacket
I love the long style of the Nerissa Quilted Coat Jacket from By Hand London. This pattern has a chic style that can’t be matched. The professional-looking collar with a collar stand entails advanced-beginner garment construction techniques, but the instructions are clear and easy to follow. Sizing is generous, so if in doubt, size down.
The Andee Hoodee Pattern
Look how a quilt elevates a hoodie! The Andee Hoodee by Darlene Agnes is just the pattern for that. Darlene sells finished quilt hoodies made from vintage quilts in her shop occasionally if you don’t have time to sew your own.
Parchment Jacket – Crew Pattern
This pattern by Closet Core Patterns has two length options with a slight turn in the pocket; It’s a Crew Unlimited exclusive pattern. I love seeing the different color combinations and style options! It is such a cute pattern!
The Hovea Coat Pattern
This gorgeous coat was sewn by Shannon Fraser of Shannon Fraser Designs using the Hovea Quilt Coat Pattern. She placed her own quilt design on the coat to create a real masterpiece! I love the huge pockets on this coat.
The Omilla Hooded Coat Pattern
Henri Van Wyk brings us two stunning and unique quilt coat designs under her indie label Sewillow. The three-quarter length Omilla Hooded Coat Pattern was designed for use with quilts or blankets. I adore the seamless transition from coat to hood and the different closure options.
The Chiono Quilted Jacket
Henri’s second pattern is The Chiono Quilted Jacket with a shawl collar and large angled pockets. The pattern offers a cropped version with ties that is darling. This one can also be sewn from new fabric quilted just for this purpose or an existing quilt.
The Tamarac Jacket Pattern
I am swooning for this Tamarac Jacket shown in a tutorial on The House That Lars Built. The simple collarless pattern is easy to sew and adjust for different materials, such as a vintage quilt.
The Coast Coat Pattern
The beautiful Coast Coat from La’Rae Handmade Designs is a must-sew. The pattern includes three lengths and many options for customization. Customers are happy with the instructions, fit, and style. Some say it’s their favorite quilt coat pattern. There’s a baby coat pattern available, too!
Patchwork Chore Coat Pattern
The Patchwork Chore Coat Pattern is another easy quilt coat pattern that lets you use an existing quilt. When I made one for my daughter, I used the bound edges and corners of the quilt as the edges and front corners of the coat, saving me lots of time!
The Elemental Coat Pattern
I can’t count how many quilters I have seen wearing the Elemental Coat Pattern designed by Teresa Coates. This pattern has too many options to count, including with or without a hood, with or without a collar, and three different length choices. The casual dropped shoulder perfectly matches the fun modern quilt designs.
The Technicolor Dreamcoat Jacket
The Technicolor Dreamcoat jacket from TQ and LPQ Pattern Shop teaches how to draft and sew this modern coat in size S/M or using an existing jacket that fits you. I love the modern colors, but of course, you can make it in any color you love.
