Former Republic of Ireland international Clinton Morrison on BBC Radio 5 live: "It was a really entertaining first half but the second wasn't as good but you can understand that.
"Chelsea are favourites now, getting the away goal, but Madrid are still in this and can cause problems."
Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel on BBC Radio 5 Live: "I have a feeling we should have won the first half and that we deserved to win the first half and we could have perhaps decided this game in the first half an hour when we were playing so strong.
"It is only half-time and we'll have to fight for every centimetre and every advantage that we want to have and we need to fight and deserve it."
Former England defender Rio Ferdinand on BT Sport: "Madrid know they are in a real tie now. If anyone was not sure what Chelsea are about they have shown now they can make it difficult for a lot of teams."
Former Liverpool, Real Madrid and Manchester City winger Steve McManaman, speaking to BT Sport: "Everyone labels Timo Werner as not a natural finisher and yet again it proved right tonight.
"He should have scored tonight."

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel on BBC Radio 5 Live: "I have a feeling we should have won the first half and that we deserved to win the first half and we could have maybe decided this game in the first half an hour when we were playing so strong. The second half was a tactical game and you could feel we only had two days in between two away games that were physically and mentally demanding and you could feel it in the decision making and then some ball losses and acceleration so we suffered from that today and an extra day would have been nice for us.
"It is only half-time and we'll have to fight for every centimetre and every advantage that we want to have and we need to fight and deserve it."
What's next?
Well as if you didn't know it's PSG v Manchester City tomorrow night. More stars on display than Madame Tussauds.
'A top technician'
Real Madrid 1-1 Chelsea
If Chelsea had Karim Benzema in their team they win that game. He is a top, top, top technician.
Benzema was exquisite'
Real Madrid 1-1 Chelsea
Former Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole, speaking to BT Sport: "Benzema has become a leader. He led the line and he was their bright spark in the first half an hour. The finish was exquisite. It is a top, top striker at the best of his game. Chelsea will have to keep him quiet in the second leg."
'I was disappointed in Madrid'
Real Madrid 1-1 Chelsea
Clinton Morrison
Former Republic of Ireland striker on BBC Radio 5 Live
Thomas Tuchel has made Chelsea defensively strong and Real Madrid didn't really create any clear-cut opportunities.
I was a bit disappointed in Madrid - I wanted them to take the game to Chelsea bit more, but by the time he went to a back four it didn't really have any time to take an effect.
'It's always good to play against friends'

Real Madrid's former Chelsea forward Eden Hazard: "It could be better and it could be worse! We will go there looking for the win.
"I am just going step by step, of course I want to play, I want to be on the pitch. I played a bit more today than before, we have games before the end of the season and I want to be ready. I am just happy to be playing again. It's always good to play against friends. Now I am a Real Madrid player so I just want to win.
"The manager decides what formation we play, we know how to play with three at the back but we can also play with four."

Before the game Thomas Tuchel would definitely have taken that result.

When Thomas Tuchel made the three changes Real Madrid were having their best spell of the game but that brought the game back to Chelsea and they got control of the game again. They really did manage it.
Real Madrid did press more for the second goal, but at the end both teams settled for the draw.
'Kante is the main man'
Real Madrid 1-1 Chelsea
Clinton Morrison
Former Republic of Ireland striker on BBC Radio 5 Live
N'Golo Kante was excellent in the second half, in particular. He just broke up attacks and he just drives. He drove at one stage in the half where Toni Kroos just had to bring him down. He is just brilliant.
Kante has to be playing every game for Chelsea. He is the main man. He covers ground which most players can't do.
'We have to live with 1-1'
Real Madrid 1-1 Chelsea
Chelsea
Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel on BT Sport: "We started the game very very well, with a lot of courage and quality. We deserved to win the first half, we had chances. Unfortunately they scored from a set-piece and they had nothing else, we didn't allow any chances.
"It was a disappointing score at half time. We had to stay calm and not lose confidence. The second half was very tactical, you could feel that we are a bit tired. We only had a few days to recover from another tough away game. We have to live with 1-1.
"The goal was well deserved and we should have scored at least one more. We conceded more or less out of nothing and that can always happen against individual quality."

'Finishing lets Chelsea down'
Real Madrid 1-1 Chelsea
Former Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole, speaking to BT Sport: "Chelsea are great ball drivers. Mount, Pulisic, they drive with the ball and can take the ball up the pitch but one thing that lets them down is the finishing touches."

Fahad: Lets not forget 2009. 0-0 at Camp Nou and we ended crashing trying to play safe (although in dubious circ*mstances). Chelsea can't play safe at SB
'Werner should have scored'
Real Madrid 1-1 Chelsea
Former Liverpool, Real Madrid and Manchester City winger Steve McManaman, speaking to BT Sport: "Everyone labels Timo Werner as not a natural finisher and yet again it proved right tonight. He should have scored tonight. That will be labelled at him and if you are a Tammy Abraham or an Olivier Giroud you must be thinking what I have got to do to play?"

Kyle: Chelsea are slight favourites. However Real Madrid are a great counter attacking side and they are so good at getting results even when they are a shadow of the side they once were. They still have great experience and crucially an in form Benzema.
'Chelsea dictated the game'
Real Madrid 1-1 Chelsea
Clinton Morrison
Former Republic of Ireland striker on BBC Radio 5 Live
It could have been even more for Chelsea - they created numerous good chances in the first half. They were outstanding in the first 20-25 minutes and in the second half they just defended well and dictated the game. It is all for Real Madrid to go and take the second leg. It is a big result for Chelsea.
'Overall we performed well'
Real Madrid 1-1 Chelsea

Chelsea's César Azpilicueta, speaking to BT Sport: "I think we started really well for the first 20-25 minutes, we got the goal and I think we could have scored more. They got back from a set play.
"It is just the first half, we knew against Real Madrid it would be tough.
"We started with courage, we had to perform at our best level. The semi-final of a Champions League asks you to play your best. We missed that little last pass where we could choose the best option.
"I think in the overall analysis we performed well.
"Benzema scored a great goal, he is a very good striker. He dropped, he got the ball and got that goal. We have to be aware for the next game.
"As a unit I think we are all improving and all growing."
'Chelsea should have won'
Real Madrid 1-1 Chelsea
Former Liverpool, Real Madrid and Manchester City winger Steve McManaman, speaking to BT Sport: "I think Real Madrid will be happy with the result. When you look at it as a whole I think Chelsea should have won tonight and they will be disappointed they didn't."
