What is the decay time for vocal reverb? ›

Decay. Decay is the time (in seconds) required for the reflections (reverberation) to die away. In most modern music production, reverb decay times of between one and three seconds are prevalent.

For a BPM of 100, the results might look something like this: DURATION OF DELAY / REVERB: 75.00 ms for Hall (2 Bars), 37.50 ms for Large Room (1 Bar), and so on. PRE-DELAY: Values ranging from 75.00 ms for Hall to 2.34 ms for Sixteenth Note (1/16 Note).

Although you might want some reverb for a sense of space, too much can muddy the waters. Consider a short and tight reverb to maintain energy and clarity. Ballads: For ballads, a lush and long reverb can accentuate the emotional impact of the vocals.

An algorithmic reverb's first order of business is to generate the effect of early reflections. The dry signal is run through several delay lines, which create a few rapid and closely-spaced delays of the original signal. This is done based on reverb settings that relate to the theoretical room's size and shape.

Depends on what you want to do. If you want to apply delay effect on the reverb for a swirling ambient effect then put the reverb first. If you want to make your guitar sound big then a pretty common trick to do so is to put the delay before the reverb.

Pre-delay prevents the reverb from masking the initial attack of the sound, allowing it to cut through the mix more clearly. By adjusting the pre-delay time, you can achieve a balance that enhances spatial characteristics without compromising the clarity and definition of the source sound.

Either with your reverb's built in filter or your standalone EQ plugin, create a high pass and a low pass filter. Set your high pass filter's cutoff to 600 Hz and the cutoff of your low pass filter to 10 kHz. This should leave you with a nice lush reverb that doesn't take up too much space in your mix.
